The customer’s challenge

Numerous cable entries admitted water, while replacing one cable required disturbing the entire seal arrangement.

Material and fabrication route

2.0 mm aluminum; 1.5 mm steel; rubber seals.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → seal assembly → protection testing.

Manufacturing changes

Modular cable glands and weather-resistant seals allowed individual cable replacement within the revised cabinet interface.

Engineering analysis

The service requirement changed the cable-entry problem: sealing the cabinet once was not enough if routine cable replacement disturbed adjacent entries. The modular arrangement separated individual cable access from the surrounding seal. This is the central fabrication lesson of the project: the entry plate, gland positions and seal interfaces need to work as a maintainable assembly, not as unrelated holes in a panel.

Inspection and project results

The tested cabinet achieved IP65, and individual cables could be changed without dismantling the full entry seal.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Cable count and diameters.
  • Replacement access around each entry.
  • Entry-plate drawing and gland arrangement.
  • Protection test for the populated cabinet.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
