Project Overview

Application Brackets and equipment mounts balanced structural mass, strength and mounting accuracy.
Materials 2.0 mm 7075 aluminum; 1.0 mm titanium components.
Process Route Laser cutting → bending → welding → material-specific heat treatment and finishing → nondestructive testing → dimensional inspection.
Customer Challenge The earlier components were heavy, welding introduced distortion and fatigue performance was inadequate.

The customer’s challenge

The earlier components were heavy, welding introduced distortion and fatigue performance was inadequate.

Material and fabrication route

2.0 mm 7075 aluminum; 1.0 mm titanium components.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → material-specific heat treatment and finishing → nondestructive testing → dimensional inspection.

Manufacturing changes

Optimized geometry and a controlled welding route limited distortion. The project used specified heat treatments and finishes for the relevant materials, followed by fatigue and nondestructive checks.

Engineering analysis

Weight reduction could not be considered independently from welded geometry and fatigue behavior. This project combined different material-specific routes, so the published sequence is an overview of the component package, not a claim that every treatment was applied identically to aluminum and titanium. Buyers evaluating a similar package should identify which drawing, weld requirement and inspection record applies to each part.

Inspection and project results

The project recorded 20% lower weight, weld distortion ≤0.1 mm and the stated fatigue-cycle result.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Part-by-part material and thickness.
  • Welded interface tolerances.
  • Weight comparison and fatigue loading.
  • Required inspection records.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
