The customer’s challenge

Docking deviations caused unreliable contact, while inadequate protection allowed contact oxidation.

Material and fabrication route

1.5 mm Q235 steel; 304 stainless contact mounting plate.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → charging-contact assembly → docking testing.

Manufacturing changes

A flared guide entrance, floating contact mechanism and improved dust sealing increased alignment tolerance and protected the interface.

Engineering analysis

Reliable docking depended on how the guide, floating contact mechanism and enclosure worked together. The guide accommodated approach error, the floating mechanism maintained contact alignment, and the revised sealing protected the interface. The recorded success rate describes the tested system rather than the enclosure alone. For another AMR, the approach geometry and contact travel need to be defined before copying the metalwork.

Inspection and project results

The tested system achieved ≥99% docking success with reliable contact and no observed oxidation during the recorded operation.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • AMR approach envelope.
  • Charging-contact travel and load.
  • Guide geometry and mounting datums.
  • Docking test conditions and cycle count.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
