The project converted standard 20 ft and 40 ft containers for outdoor battery storage, integrating insulation and environmental control.
The customer’s challenge
Poor insulation caused temperature differences, and the original enclosure did not meet the project’s protection and fire-material requirements.
Material and fabrication route
2.0 mm weathering steel; mineral-wool insulation; stainless interior panels.
Process route: Container modification → sheet metal welding → insulation → fire-protective coating → HVAC installation → protection testing.
Manufacturing changes
A 50 mm insulation layer, the specified fire-protection materials, fire-system integration and controlled HVAC improved the installation.
Engineering analysis
The container metalwork was part of an integrated thermal and protection arrangement. Insulation, HVAC and enclosure details worked together to maintain the recorded internal temperature range. That range is not a standalone property of the steel shell. The published storage capacity identifies the project configuration, while a new installation still needs its own equipment layout, heat load and environmental acceptance conditions.
Inspection and project results
The completed configuration maintained 15–30°C internally and achieved the reported IP55 enclosure result.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Protection test | IP55 |
| Internal temperature | 15–30°C |
| Insulation thickness | 50 mm |
| 20 ft configuration | ≥1 MWh |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Container size and battery arrangement.
- Thermal load and ambient conditions.
- Insulation and service penetrations.
- Installed-system protection requirements.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
