The customer’s challenge

Coolant escaped the guard, doors jammed and spray obscured the observation window.

Material and fabrication route

1.5 mm Q235 steel; tempered-glass observation window.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → rail assembly → seal inspection.

Manufacturing changes

Revised seals, heavy-duty rails and rollers, window clearing and splash control at the discharge opening addressed the operating problems.

Engineering analysis

The door, viewing window and chip-discharge opening were all potential interruptions in the machine guard. The changes addressed movement and containment together: rails supported repeatable door travel, seals controlled escaping coolant, and window clearing maintained visibility. The door-cycle result should be read as an endurance result for the tested arrangement. It does not replace checking access and guarding requirements for a different machine.

Inspection and project results

The project eliminated observed coolant escape, restored smooth door movement and maintained a clear viewing area.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Machine travel and service envelope.
  • Coolant and chip-discharge paths.
  • Door mass, rails and cycle requirement.
  • Window visibility and seal interfaces.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
