The customer’s challenge

Liquid collected in corners, and inaccessible weld crevices made the original box difficult to clean to the customer’s requirements.

Material and fabrication route

1.2 mm 304 stainless steel.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → electropolishing → passivation → silicone-seal assembly.

Manufacturing changes

Large-radius bends, continuous welds and blended internal corners eliminated crevices. Electropolishing completed the internal surface treatment.

Engineering analysis

The box geometry mattered because cleaning access was limited by corners and weld crevices. Large radii and blended continuous seams changed those surfaces before the final electropolishing step. The recorded disinfection temperature and customer cleaning acceptance describe this box configuration. They should not be expanded into a blanket sterilization or regulatory claim for every tray with the same stainless grade.

Inspection and project results

The customer accepted the cleaning validation. The boxes withstood the reported 121°C disinfection condition with the revised corner and seam construction.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Box volume and internal radii.
  • Cleaning chemicals and temperature.
  • Continuous-weld and finish requirements.
  • Seal materials and acceptance method.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
