The customer’s challenge

Flexible brackets allowed sensor movement, while incompatible hole patterns complicated adjustment and increased part variety.

Material and fabrication route

1.2 mm 304 stainless steel; 1.5 mm aluminum.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → deburring → finishing → inspection.

Manufacturing changes

Stiffer sections, slotted adjustment holes with scales and standardized mounting patterns improved the interfaces.

Engineering analysis

Standardization was useful only if the bracket still allowed the required sensor or actuator adjustment. The revised geometry combined stiffness with controlled slots and compatible hole patterns. This reduced the need for separate bracket variants while preserving adjustment at assembly. The reported reduction in part types concerns the customer’s bracket family; it is distinct from reducing the quantity of brackets used on a machine.

Inspection and project results

Sensors remained steady and adjustment became easier. The customer’s bracket variety fell by 40%.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Sensor and actuator interfaces.
  • Adjustment direction and range.
  • Locked-position requirements.
  • Common versus model-specific mounting patterns.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
