The chassis supported transmission equipment in a 19-inch rack with controlled cooling and electrical continuity.

The customer’s challenge

Radiated leakage, rack-fit errors, inadequate cooling and stiff board insertion affected assembly and operation.

Material and fabrication route

1.0 mm SECC steel; aluminum front panel.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → hardware insertion → powder coating → conductive-gasket assembly → EMC testing.

Manufacturing changes

Revised conductive overlaps, controlled EIA-310 mounting dimensions, airflow paths and guided board rails improved the chassis.

Engineering analysis

Rack installation, board insertion and conductive continuity were separate interfaces within the same chassis. The project brought them into a coordinated enclosure design rather than relying on an overall external size. The reported EMC and temperature results refer to the configured telecom equipment. For a new chassis, board positions, mating rack hardware and conductive contact zones need to be agreed with the mechanical drawing.

Inspection and project results

The project recorded successful rack installation, reliable board insertion and acceptance of the configured equipment’s EMC and cooling checks.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Rack mounting interface.
  • Board guides and insertion envelope.
  • Conductive seam and gasket zones.
  • Thermal load and airflow path.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
