The customer’s challenge

Poor shroud efficiency, noise, large guard openings and vibration affected the cooling assembly.

Material and fabrication route

0.8 mm galvanized steel; wire guard.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → fan assembly → airflow testing.

Manufacturing changes

Revised shroud geometry, isolation pads, closer guard spacing and balancing improved the installation.

Engineering analysis

The fan installation combined a flow-guiding surface, vibration interfaces and a guard. Revising only the guard spacing would not explain the airflow improvement, and changing the shroud would not by itself control vibration transmission. The project treated these features together. Airflow and noise results apply to the tested fan arrangement, with its specific mounting and operating condition.

Inspection and project results

The tested configuration increased airflow by 15% and reduced noise by 5 dB without the previous vibration noise.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Fan size and operating point.
  • Shroud and inlet clearances.
  • Guard arrangement and access requirements.
  • Vibration mounts and noise measurement condition.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
