Project Overview

Application The enclosure protected outdoor industrial equipment through an accurately controlled gasket interface.
Materials 1.5 mm 304 stainless steel.
Process Route Laser cutting → bending → welding → sealing-face machining → electropolishing → seal assembly → protection testing.
Customer Challenge Uneven sealing faces compressed the gasket inconsistently and prevented the enclosure from reaching its intended protection level.

The customer’s challenge

Uneven sealing faces compressed the gasket inconsistently and prevented the enclosure from reaching its intended protection level.

Material and fabrication route

1.5 mm 304 stainless steel.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → sealing-face machining → electropolishing → seal assembly → protection testing.

Manufacturing changes

CNC machining controlled face flatness, while revised gasket-groove dimensions established uniform compression.

Engineering analysis

The sealing face determined how evenly the gasket could work around the enclosure. Machining the face and revising the groove addressed the compression relationship rather than adding sealant to an uneven joint. The immersion and IP results apply to the tested assembled enclosure. For another design, gasket section, closure force and mating-face geometry need to be considered together with the sheet metal drawing.

Inspection and project results

The tested assembly achieved IP67 and completed the stated immersion check without leakage.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Gasket profile and groove geometry.
  • Sealing-face flatness.
  • Closure and fastening arrangement.
  • Immersion and protection test conditions.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
