The assembly comprised an enclosure and mounting brackets for a rack-mounted cooling distribution unit, securing and protecting its liquid-cooling pipework.
The customer’s challenge
Pipe vibration fatigued supports, joints leaked, and enclosure interference restricted maintenance access.
Material and fabrication route
1.5 mm 304 stainless steel; 3.0 mm aluminum mounting plate.
Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → passivation → assembly → pressure testing.
Manufacturing changes
Revised support spacing, damping pads, removable service doors and tool clearance around joints addressed both support and accessibility.
Engineering analysis
Support and maintenance requirements interacted around the cooling pipes. Increasing support without considering tool access could leave joints difficult to service. The revised spacing, isolation pads and removable panels addressed the pipe route as an installed assembly. Working pressure and test pressure are distinct values in the record; neither should be confused with a pressure rating for an unrelated sheet metal cover.
Inspection and project results
The tested assembly operated without leakage, pipe vibration was reduced, and maintenance clearance was sufficient.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Working pressure | 1.6 MPa |
| Test pressure | 2.4 MPa |
| Support spacing | ≤300 mm |
| Rack height | 2U |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Pipe and valve arrangement.
- Support spacing and isolation interfaces.
- Joint tool-access envelopes.
- Working and test pressure conditions.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
