Baffles and airflow interfaces supported noise control and ventilation for a data-center standby generator room.
The customer’s challenge
The room exceeded noise limits, but restricting airflow caused generator temperature rise and load reduction.
Material and fabrication route
1.5 mm galvanized steel; acoustic infill; 0.8 mm perforated liner.
Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → acoustic infill → perforated lining → powder coating.
Manufacturing changes
A combined reactive and absorptive silencer arrangement balanced passage area, baffle spacing and the required ventilation through airflow analysis.
Engineering analysis
The generator room could not solve noise by simply restricting air. Passage area and baffle spacing had to remain compatible with generator operation while the acoustic arrangement addressed the unwanted sound. The noise result and full-load operating observation refer to the installed room. They should not be quoted as an isolated performance rating for one removable baffle panel.
Inspection and project results
External room noise met the project requirement and the generator operated at full load with acceptable temperature.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Noise reduction | ≥25 dB(A) |
| Intake area | ≥0.8 m² |
| Generator power | ≥2,000 kW |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Generator and room arrangement.
- Required ventilation and pressure allowance.
- Acoustic measurement conditions.
- Baffle and service-access interfaces.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
