The customer’s challenge

Corrosion, weak fan-guard stiffness and large assembly gaps affected the original housing.

Material and fabrication route

1.2 mm galvanized steel; aluminum panels.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → assembly → protection testing.

Manufacturing changes

Outdoor coating, revised water protection, guard reinforcement and improved panel interfaces addressed the weaknesses.

Engineering analysis

The housing needed consistent assembly gaps while supporting a fan guard exposed to outdoor use. Reinforcement addressed the guard, improved interfaces addressed fit, and the coating route addressed exposed surfaces. The water-protection result belongs to the assembled housing. Panel material and coating thickness alone would not establish the same result if seams, openings or installed components changed.

Inspection and project results

The configured housing achieved IPX4 with assembly gaps ≤0.5 mm and a stiffer fan guard.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Unit and fan arrangement.
  • Panel gaps and mounting details.
  • Outdoor finish requirements.
  • Water-protection and guard acceptance.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
