A fabricated acoustic enclosure controlled noise around industrial equipment while maintaining ventilation and service access.
The customer’s challenge
Noise remained excessive, but the earlier enclosure restricted cooling and made maintenance difficult.
Material and fabrication route
2.0 mm Q235 steel; acoustic infill; 0.8 mm perforated liner.
Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → acoustic infill → perforated lining → powder coating → acoustic testing.
Manufacturing changes
A double-wall structure with damping, silenced ventilation routes, removable doors and revised low-frequency behavior addressed the conflict.
Engineering analysis
Acoustic treatment had to coexist with ventilation and maintenance. The double-wall construction and infill addressed sound transmission, while the silenced openings and removable doors addressed operation and access. Noise reduction and sound insulation are different measurements in the project record and should not be added together. The useful comparison is between complete arrangements under defined operating and measurement conditions.
Inspection and project results
The project recorded ≥20 dB(A) noise reduction with acceptable equipment temperature and accessible maintenance points.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Noise reduction | ≥20 dB(A) |
| Ventilation | ≥1,000 m³/h |
| Sound insulation | ≥30 dB |
| Equipment power | ≥50 kW |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Equipment noise and operating load.
- Ventilation flow and pressure allowance.
- Measurement positions and acoustic target.
- Door and maintenance-removal envelopes.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
