The customer’s challenge

Personnel could reach hazardous areas and the existing door-interlock arrangement could be bypassed.

Material and fabrication route

Q235 steel tube; 1.5 mm sheet; polycarbonate panels.

Process route: Tube cutting → sheet bending → welding → powder coating → interlock assembly → inspection.

Manufacturing changes

Revised guarding geometry and coded safety switches controlled access as part of the line’s safety design.

Engineering analysis

The guarding work addressed the relationship between physical access and the control interlocks. Revised geometry limited access, while coded switches addressed the identified bypass issue. The recorded assessment and safety level concern the configured line, not a standalone sheet metal panel. A comparable project requires the machine integrator’s hazard and access requirements alongside fabrication drawings so both scopes remain coordinated.

Inspection and project results

The configured line passed the reported risk assessment. Access to hazardous areas was controlled and the previously identified interlock bypass was addressed.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Line layout and access requirements.
  • Guard and door interface drawings.
  • Interlock and control responsibilities.
  • Configured-line risk assessment and acceptance.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
