The project covered standard 2U and 4U chassis for network and security equipment used in data centers.
The customer’s challenge
Poor rail fit obstructed rack installation, indicator windows did not align accurately, and enclosure shielding was inadequate.
Material and fabrication route
1.0 mm SECC steel; 2.0 mm aluminum front panel.
Process route: Laser cutting → bending → hardware insertion → welding → powder coating → front-panel anodizing → assembly.
Manufacturing changes
Rack-mounting dimensions were controlled to the specified EIA-310 interface. Conductive gaskets and revised seam overlaps improved shielding continuity.
Engineering analysis
Successful rack installation depended on the chassis interface, rails and front-panel details remaining coordinated after fabrication and finishing. The indicator alignment problem was separate from conductive continuity, so both were addressed in the enclosure revision. Rack heights and depth describe the supplied family, while the emissions result belongs to the configured equipment. This helps distinguish mechanical fit checks from system-level acceptance.
Inspection and project results
The chassis installed smoothly, indicator windows aligned correctly, and the configured equipment passed the reported EMC test.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Rack interface | EIA-310 |
| Chassis depth | 600–800 mm |
| Rack heights | 2U / 4U |
| Production quantity | 500 chassis/month |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Rack and rail interface drawings.
- Front-panel indicator and connector layout.
- Conductive gasket and finish zones.
- Configured-equipment acceptance requirements.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
