Sheet metal housings, fan frames and coil supports formed the mechanical structure of a rack-level liquid-cooling rear door.

The customer’s challenge

Door leakage, escaping condensate and fan vibration transmitted into the rack impaired operation.

Material and fabrication route

1.5 mm galvanized steel; 304 stainless condensate tray.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → insulation application → assembly inspection.

Manufacturing changes

Double seals improved the door interface. A sloped drain tray with overflow detection and fan isolation pads addressed water collection and vibration.

Engineering analysis

The rear door combined airflow, liquid-cooling components and condensate collection in a structure attached to a rack. Door leakage, water escape and vibration transmission could not be addressed by panel stiffness alone. The revised seals, drain arrangement and isolation pads treated those interfaces separately. The cooling result is a system result for the configured rack-level assembly, not a capacity assigned to sheet metal covers.

Inspection and project results

The assembled system contained condensate, reduced transmitted vibration and maintained a sealed door interface.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Rack and coil interface geometry.
  • Fan and cooling operating conditions.
  • Condensate routing and overflow interface.
  • Door seals and vibration isolation.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
