The customer’s challenge

Moving cables rubbed against the arm, interfered with adjacent components and were difficult to replace.

Material and fabrication route

0.8 mm 304 stainless steel; nylon separators.

Process route: Laser cutting → bending → deburring → passivation → assembly.

Manufacturing changes

Guiding brackets and wear-resistant separators maintained cable bend radius at ≥10D. Removable supports simplified access.

Engineering analysis

The cable supports had to manage movement throughout the arm’s travel, not just organize wiring at rest. Guiding features and separators addressed rubbing and interference while removable supports preserved access. The bend-radius requirement uses the cable diameter as its reference, and the cycle result belongs to the tested routing. A new cable bundle therefore needs its own diameter, motion and clearance inputs.

Inspection and project results

The tested routing avoided wear and interference while improving maintenance access.

Project measurement or production detailRecorded value
Cable bend radius≥10D
Wear-motion test≥1,000,000 cycles
Robot reach≥1 m

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Cable diameters and bundle layout.
  • Full arm motion envelope.
  • Minimum cable bend radii.
  • Wear-cycle and replacement-access requirements.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
