The customer’s challenge

An uneven rail mounting face increased vibration and accumulated positioning error across the robot’s travel.

Material and fabrication route

Q235 structural sections and sheet; 3.0 mm base plate.

Process route: Section cutting → welding → stress relief → CNC mounting-face machining → powder coating → straightness inspection.

Manufacturing changes

The complete weldment was stress-relieved before CNC machining. Adjustment pads and grouted fixing supported final installation.

Engineering analysis

A long robot axis amplified the importance of its mounting reference. Uneven rail seating could affect motion across the full travel even if individual fixing holes were correctly located. The stress-relieved, machined weldment addressed the rail face, while adjustment and grouting addressed installation. The straightness result is stated per unit length and should be interpreted alongside the recorded travel and loading configuration.

Inspection and project results

Rail straightness reached ≤0.05 mm/m, operation became smooth, and positioning met the project’s full-travel requirement.

Project measurement or production detailRecorded value
Rail straightness≤0.05 mm/m
Travel≥5 m
Base load≥500 kg
Robot payload≥50 kg

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Rail mounting-face and hole drawings.
  • Travel and load distribution.
  • Installation adjustment and fixing method.
  • Straightness and motion acceptance.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
