A robot-cell enclosure combined fencing, interlocked doors and observation windows for an industrial workstation.
The customer’s challenge
Insufficient guarding allowed access to the robot zone, door interlocks were unreliable and visibility was limited.
Material and fabrication route
Q235 steel tube; 1.5 mm sheet; acrylic viewing panels.
Process route: Tube cutting → sheet bending → welding → powder coating → interlock installation → inspection.
Manufacturing changes
The team revised barrier geometry, fitted door interlocks and enlarged the observation panels within the project safety design.
Engineering analysis
Visibility and access control were both important to the workstation enclosure. Enlarged observation areas improved monitoring, while barriers and interlocked doors addressed entry to the robot zone. The reported safety assessment concerns the configured cell. Published gap and height dimensions are project details, not generic safe distances that should be copied to equipment with different hazards or approach geometry.
Inspection and project results
The completed installation passed the reported robot safety assessment, with effective access control, reliable interlocking and improved visibility.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Barrier height | ≥1,400 mm |
| Project gap dimension | ≤120 mm |
| Door-interlock rating | PLd |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Cell layout and hazard assessment.
- Door and observation requirements.
- Interlock and control responsibilities.
- Configured-cell access acceptance.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
