The customer’s challenge

Separately manufactured modules accumulated positioning error and required repeated site adjustment.

Material and fabrication route

Welded Q235 steel; CNC-machined datum faces.

Process route: Welding → stress relief → datum machining → module assembly → position inspection.

Manufacturing changes

A shared datum plate located every module. Its mounting references were machined in one setup.

Engineering analysis

The problem lay in the relative position of modules that were previously manufactured around separate references. A shared datum plate made those relationships explicit, and machining the references together addressed the accumulated mismatch. The reported relative-position result is more relevant to this case than a claim about each module’s isolated dimensions. It explains why the shared interface reduced site adjustment in the recorded assembly.

Inspection and project results

Relative module position reached ≤0.1 mm, removing the reported need for site adjustment and improving workstation assembly efficiency.

These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.

Planning a similar OEM component

A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:

  • Module interface drawings.
  • Common datum scheme.
  • Relative-position acceptance.
  • Plate mounting and installation sequence.

Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
