The welded structure provided rollover and falling-object protection around a construction-equipment operator compartment.
The customer’s challenge
Excessive deformation under the project load cases threatened operator clearance, while structural mass affected vehicle integration.
Material and fabrication route
Q345B structural sections; 3.0 mm steel plate.
Process route: Section cutting → welding → stress relief → powder coating → rollover and falling-object testing.
Manufacturing changes
High-strength steel and finite-element optimization informed the revised geometry, followed by physical testing of the configured structure.
Engineering analysis
The structure had to preserve operator clearance under the project’s load cases, not merely remain visually intact. Geometry development and physical testing addressed that requirement together. The energy and load basis identify the reported tests for this configuration. They must remain tied to the vehicle and protected clearance zone; they are not standalone design rules for an unrelated protective structure.
Inspection and project results
The project passed the reported rollover and falling-object tests while preserving the designated operator clearance zone.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Falling-object test energy | ≥11,600 J |
| Rollover load basis | ≥5 × vehicle weight |
| Plate thickness | 3.0 mm |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Vehicle mounting and mass inputs.
- Protected clearance-zone definition.
- Rollover and falling-object load cases.
- Weld and physical-test acceptance.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
