The enclosure protected a solar inverter operating outdoors with significant heat dissipation.
The customer’s challenge
Solar exposure increased temperature, moisture damaged electronics and the housing restricted maintenance.
Material and fabrication route
2.0 mm aluminum; 1.5 mm steel.
Process route: Laser cutting → bending → welding → powder coating → heat-sink machining → protection testing.
Manufacturing changes
Passive heat paths, cooling fins, improved sealing, corrosion protection and removable panels addressed the installation.
Engineering analysis
The inverter enclosure had to manage heat, weather exposure and service access at the same time. Fins and passive paths addressed heat removal, while seals and the finish addressed the external environment. Removable panels preserved access. The recorded temperature rise belongs to the configured inverter at its stated load, so an enclosure drawing for another power unit should include the new thermal interfaces.
Inspection and project results
The tested configuration achieved IP65 and full-load temperature rise ≤45 K, with easier access for service.
| Project measurement or production detail | Recorded value |
|---|---|
| Protection test | IP65 |
| Temperature rise | ≤45 K |
| Project coating classification | C4 |
| Inverter power | ≥100 kW |
These figures describe the project configuration and production scope above. Dimensional, material and production details are identified separately from performance tests. For a new order, the inspection method and acceptance criteria should be agreed against the released drawings.
Planning a similar OEM component
A useful RFQ for this application should make the following interfaces and acceptance requirements clear:
- Inverter layout and heat load.
- Heat-sink contact and fin clearances.
- Outdoor finish and sealing details.
- Service access and full-load acceptance.
Include the current drawing revision, mating-component information, quantities and required delivery sequence. Identifying unresolved requirements at quotation stage helps distinguish fabrication work from the equipment-level checks that the project needs.
