AR400 Wear Plate Fabrication

Abrasion-Resistant Steel Parts for
Hoppers, Chutes & Heavy Equipment

AR400 wear plate combines high hardness with practical fabrication routes for liners, guards, chute sections and high-wear machine parts that see sliding abrasion.

  • Typical hardness: 360-440 HBW
  • Cutting, drilling, countersinking and weld prep
  • DFM support for wear direction and replaceable liners

Used for mining, agriculture, aggregate, recycling and material handling equipment

Material Overview

AR400 is an abrasion-resistant quenched and tempered steel plate commonly specified where sliding wear destroys mild steel too quickly. It is not a cosmetic sheet material; it is a heavy-duty choice for replaceable liners, chutes, hoppers, guards, bucket wear parts and conveyor handling components.

Compared with mild steel or standard carbon steel, AR400 gives much better abrasion life, but it needs more careful cutting, drilling, bending and welding planning.

Wear Plate Grade Comparison

AR400 sits in the practical middle: harder than common structural steels, easier to fabricate than very high hardness wear plate.

Grade Typical Hardness Wear Resistance Formability Weldability Typical Use
Mild Steel 120-180 HBW Low Excellent Excellent General frames, covers, brackets
AR400 360-440 HBW High Moderate Good with controls Chutes, liners, hoppers, guards
AR500 470-540 HBW Very high Limited More restrictive Severe wear liners and impact plates

Relative Wear Resistance

A practical comparison for material selection; exact life depends on abrasive type, speed, impact and part geometry.
