Material Overview

Brass is a copper and zinc alloy that trades some conductivity for better machinability, lower cost, attractive appearance and practical corrosion resistance. It sits between pure copper and bronze in the copper-family selection map.

We fabricate cartridge brass sheet for formed parts, free-cutting brass for machined fittings and architectural brass for visible hardware. For grade selection, see our brass vs bronze vs copper guide.

Brass Grade Specifications

Brass grade choice depends on whether the part is formed, machined, decorative, marine-facing or lead-restricted.

Recommended Applications

  • Electrical terminals, connector plates and EMI parts
  • Machined inserts, fittings, valves and standoffs
  • Decorative brackets, handles and architectural trim
  • Formed covers, nameplates and precision sheet parts

Design Notes

  • Use C260 for deep drawing and sheet forming
  • Use C360 for high-volume CNC machining
  • Avoid leaded brass when potable-water rules apply
  • Use lacquer, nickel or chrome plating to slow tarnish
