Precision and Traceability for Flight Hardware

Aerospace brackets demand tight tolerances, the right lightweight materials, and a complete paper trail. Here's what we fabricate to.

Aluminum Grades 5052, 6061, 7075 — aerospace strength-to-weight workhorses
Stainless Grades 304 / 316 — for higher-strength and fire-resistant brackets
Thickness Released drawing and approved material specification
Cutting Fiber laser cutting — clean edges, tight profiles, no burr carry-over
Forming CNC press-brake bending to drawing-defined tolerances and inspection criteria
Operations Punching, riveting, tapping, hardware (PEM) insertion, deburring
Finishing Anodizing & chromate conversion (Al); passivation / electropolish (stainless)
Edges Drawing-defined edge-break and acceptance criteria
Traceability Supplier material certificates and lot-to-part linkage when specified, quoted and supported by the approved material source
Inspection AS9102-format first-article and dimensional inspection reports when specified and quoted

Note: DRAmetal is AS9100D certified. Certificate details are available on request. We fabricate brackets to released drawings with traceability and AS9102-format first- article inspection when specified. Final airworthiness and any required special-process approvals (e.g. NADCAP) for flight-critical applications are coordinated with you as the OEM and your approved process sources.

03 / Manufacturing Process

From Aluminum Sheet to Flight Bracket

Aerospace brackets are unforgiving on tolerance, finish, and documentation. Our process controls all three.

01

DFM & Material

Review the bracket for manufacturability, confirm the grade (5052/6061/7075 or stainless), and source with full mill traceability and certs.

02

Laser Cutting

Fiber laser cutting of blanks, hole patterns, and lightening holes to exact profile with clean, burr-minimized edges.

03

Forming & Bending

CNC press-brake forming follows the released tolerances, bend notes and agreed inspection plan.

04

Hardware & Deburring

Riveting, tapping, and PEM hardware insertion; thorough deburring so no edge is sharper than aerospace practice allows.

05

Finishing

Anodizing or chromate conversion for aluminum; passivation or electropolish for stainless — corrosion protection to aerospace spec.

06

Inspection & FAIR

Dimensional inspection and First Article Inspection Report (AS9102 format), with the documentation package your program requires.

04 / Material Options

Lightweight Alloys Matched to the Load

Material drives the strength-to-weight balance every aerospace bracket lives by. Here's how the options compare.

6061 Aluminum

The aerospace all-rounder — excellent dimensional stability, good strength, weldable and formable. The default for avionics brackets and general structures.

  • Strength Good
  • Formability Good
  • Best for Avionics, general

7075 Aluminum

The high-strength choice — among the strongest aluminum alloys, for load-bearing structural brackets where strength-to-weight is critical.

  • Strength Highest (Al)
  • Formability Limited (large radii)
  • Best for Structural, load-bearing

5052 Al / 304-316 SS

5052 for the most formable aluminum brackets; 304/316 stainless where higher strength, fire resistance, or corrosion performance is needed.

  • 5052 Most formable Al
  • Stainless Strength / fire
  • Best for Formed / high-load

Not sure which alloy? See our aluminum grades guide — or send your drawing for a recommendation.

05 / Why It Matters

An Aerospace Bracket Is Flight Hardware

A bracket may look simple, but in aerospace it carries loads, affects weight and must follow the program's traceability requirements. The aerospace design authority owns loads, qualification and final part release.

Strength-to-Weight Is Everything

Every gram matters in flight. The right alloy (7075 for strength, 6061 for stability, 5052 for forming) delivers the load capacity needed at the lowest weight — the core aerospace trade-off.

Forming Without Cracking

High-strength alloys like 7075 need generous bend radii and controlled forming or they crack. Springback-managed bending preserves the bracket's integrity and dimensional accuracy.

Traceability Is Non-Negotiable

The RFQ must define material records, lot identity, routing and any first-article documentation. We provide only the contractually agreed record set.

Edges and Finish Protect Life

Drawing-defined edge-breaks and the approved finish — such as anodize or conversion coating — protect against handling damage and corrosion over the airframe's long service life.

09 / FAQ

Aerospace Bracket FAQ

Can you manufacture anodized aluminum and laser-cut metal brackets for aerospace?

Yes. We fabricate drawing-defined aluminum aerospace brackets with laser-cut profiles, formed features and specified anodized finishes. Send the released alloy and temper, bend geometry, hole datums, finish or masking notes, inspection scope and quantity. The OEM owns material approval, special-process requirements and final airworthiness decisions.

What materials do you use for aerospace brackets?

Aluminum 5052, 6061, and 7075 — the aerospace strength-to-weight workhorses — plus 304/316 stainless for higher-strength or fire-resistant brackets. We recommend based on your load, weight budget, and environment.

6061 or 7075 — which for my bracket?

6061 is the all-rounder — good strength, excellent dimensional stability, and formability — ideal for avionics and general brackets. 7075 is among the strongest aluminum alloys, for load-bearing structural brackets, but needs larger bend radii. See our aluminum grades guide.

Are you AS9100 certified?

Yes. DRAmetal is AS9100D certified. Certificate details are available on request. Material-record, forming-control and AS9102-format first-article documentation scopes are reviewed and quoted only when specified by the buyer. Final airworthiness and any required special-process (e.g. NADCAP) approvals for flight-critical parts are coordinated with you as the OEM. Tell us your program's requirements and we'll confirm how we support them.

Can you provide material traceability and certs?

When the drawing and RFQ specify the requirement, we can quote supplier material certificates, lot-to-part linkage, dimensional reports and other agreed records. Availability and document format depend on the alloy, approved source and project scope; the OEM defines the program-level documentation and retention requirements.

What finishing do you offer?

For aluminum: anodizing (including colored) and chromate conversion coating. For stainless: passivation and electropolishing. All for corrosion protection to the quoted drawing and finish specification. The OEM identifies any required approved special-process source or program approval.

Do you handle prototype and production volumes?

Yes — from first-article prototypes through production runs. Send us your drawing and quantity and we'll provide a DFM review, material recommendation, and quote.
