03 / Manufacturing Process

Integrated Production Workflow

Eight production steps from raw stainless or steel coil to inspected cabinet metalwork built to the released drawing.

01

DFM & Compliance Review

Pre-production DFM analysis including hazardous-area requirements, thermal modeling, and certification roadmap (ATEX / UL 508A) for the target market.

02

Material Verification

Stainless and steel coils verified by mill cert and XRF. Critical for ATEX variants where material traceability is mandatory.

03

Laser Cutting & Punching

The quotation confirms the cutting and punching route for body, door, gland plate, mounting and ventilation features.

04

Press Brake Forming

Body and door follow a quoted forming route. Sealing surfaces follow drawing-defined tolerances and inspection criteria. The OEM or test body owns final ingress and hazardous-area validation.

05

Welding

Robotic MIG for structural seams; continuous welds on sealing-critical joints (no skip welds). TIG for cosmetic and stainless work. Distortion controlled.

06

Surface Treatment

Finish type, pretreatment, color and any ASTM B117 method or exposure duration are buyer-defined. Test evidence must come from the responsible test party when included in the RFQ.

07

Assembly & Sealing

Gaskets, hinges, 3-point latches, cable glands, thermal management, and internal mounting installed per BOM. Calibrated torque on all door fasteners.

08

IP & Performance Testing

Ingress, pressure-decay or impact checks are performed only when the customer supplies the method, acceptance criteria and agreed sampling plan. Final IP/IK/ATEX validation remains outside DRAmetal's scope.

05 / Quality & Compliance

Project-Specific Quality Planning

The buyer should define critical interfaces, inspection evidence and any independent test scope for the intended environment. DRAmetal does not claim a hazardous-area, ingress, impact or electrical rating for the finished cabinet.

Hazardous-Area Programs

DRAmetal can fabricate certification-sensitive mechanical features from an OEM-released design. See our ATEX control cabinets for the focused fabrication scope; final approval is not provided by DRAmetal.

UL 508A

The panel builder owns electrical construction, testing, Listing and labeling. DRAmetal supplies only the quoted mechanical cabinet scope.

IEC 61439

Clearances, bonding and compartment interfaces can be fabricated from released drawings; the assembly owner retains design verification.

IP66 / NEMA 4X

Seal lands, door fit and coating can be manufactured to customer targets. Final IP or NEMA validation is performed on the complete assembly by the responsible party.

Project-Defined Inspection and Test Scope

💧

IP66 Test

Final ingress testing by the responsible party to the buyer-selected IEC 60529 method

🔨

IK Impact

Impact target, specimen and test provider defined by the OEM under IEC 62262

🌡️

Temperature

Buyer-defined temperature profile, acceptance limits and approved external test provider

🛡️

Salt Spray

ASTM B117 exposure only when duration, specimen and acceptance criteria are quoted

🔌

Electrical

Continuity checks only to buyer-supplied limits; electrical approval remains external

📋

ATEX Integrity

Mechanical features checked to released drawings; ATEX/IECEx verification remains with the responsible certification party

The Customer Challenge

Dust and moisture entered through door gaps and caused contamination. Thin coating at poorly dressed corners corroded, while mismatched mounting holes required drilling on site.

Why Industrial OEMs Partner With DRAmetal

01

Build-to-print discipline

Mechanical fabrication of certification-sensitive features from released drawings, including sealing, bonding and cable-entry interfaces.

02

Clear approval boundary

DRAmetal supplies the mechanical cabinet scope. The OEM, panel builder and applicable test body retain final electrical, hazardous-area and market approval.

03

Harsh-environment build-to-print scope

Sealing, material and environmental requirements follow the OEM-released design. Field reliability, service life and final validation remain with the OEM.

04

Total cost of ownership focus

Lifecycle cost depends on the OEM design, installed environment, maintenance and replacement strategy; no fixed field-cost result is claimed.

05

Integrated single-source production

Cutting, forming, welding, finishing and assembly scope is confirmed by RFQ. Any testing follows the buyer-defined plan and responsible test-party boundary.

06

Traceability by RFQ

Project records can link material documents, weld parameters and test data when the retention period and format are specified in the RFQ.

09 / FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the minimum order quantity for industrial control cabinets?
Minimum order and repeat-production quantity depend on cabinet geometry, tooling, finish, inspection and packout. They are confirmed in the quotation after the released scope is reviewed.
Are DRAmetal cabinets ATEX or IECEx certified?
ATEX and IECEx requirements are reviewed against the specified cabinet configuration and target market. Our dedicated ATEX control cabinet scope covers mechanical fabrication from a customer-released design. The OEM or notified body owns the certification file, component selection, testing and marking.
Can you meet both UL 508A and CE / ATEX requirements?
We can manufacture a customer-released mechanical design that is intended for those approval paths. UL certification documentation is available on request for applicable products and components; confirm the model and listing scope during the RFQ review. CE and ATEX requirements, supporting records and approval responsibilities are agreed for the specific configuration with the panel builder, OEM and applicable certification body.
How do you handle thermal management in sealed cabinets?
The RFQ can include buyer-released provisions for passive cooling, filtered fans, heat exchangers or HVAC. The OEM or responsible thermal party defines heat load, altitude, ingress boundary and validation; DRAmetal does not claim a fixed thermal rating.
Can the cabinets be pre-wired with components installed?
We provide the build-to-print mechanical enclosure; component installation and wiring (PLC, VFD, breakers, terminals) can be done by your panel shop, or we can coordinate with integration partners. We pre-install mounting plates, DIN rails, cable management, glands, and grounding kits per your specification.
How do you ship cabinets internationally?
We ship globally via sea (FCL for volume), with custom palletization optimized for safety and container utilization. Air freight available for urgent needs. EXW, FOB, CIF, DDP supported, with agreed export documentation for customer-owned hazardous-area equipment programs.
