01 / What We Fabricate

The Mechanical Interface Between Operator and Machine

An HMI enclosure must protect the display and controls while remaining ergonomic, serviceable and consistent with the OEM machine. We manufacture the housing and mounting system to released drawings, including cutouts, rear access, hardware, sealing interfaces and cosmetic finish.

Precision Front Panels

Touchscreen, indicator, switch and emergency-stop openings controlled from functional cutout datums.

Serviceable Rear Access

Hinged or removable rear covers with gasket support, captive hardware and clear internal access.

Mounting and Cable Interfaces

Suspension-arm couplings, pedestal bases, wall brackets and strain-relieved cable-entry provisions.

OEM Cosmetic Finish

Powder coat, brushed stainless, graphics-ready surfaces and protected packout for visible operator equipment.

Our scope: the fabricated HMI housing and specified mechanical hardware

The OEM or controls integrator owns the HMI, PLC, electrical design, safety functions, software, final ingress evaluation and equipment compliance. We manufacture the released enclosure, mounting structure and hardware-ready mechanical assembly.

02 / HMI Enclosure Types

Operator Enclosures for Industrial Automation

Each housing is customized around the customer's display, mounting method and operating environment rather than supplied as a generic electrical box.

Suspension-Arm HMI Enclosures Suspension Arm

Suspension-Arm HMI Enclosures

Pendant and articulating-arm housings for machine-side controls with reinforced couplings, handles and routed cable entry.

  • Mount Top / rear / bottom
  • Access Gasketed rear door
  • Use Machine-side operator control
Pedestal Operator Stations Pedestal

Pedestal Operator Stations

Freestanding HMI heads, columns and anchor bases with internal cable routing and serviceable access panels.

  • Structure Head, column and base
  • Routing Internal cable path
  • Finish Powder coat / stainless
Stainless Washdown HMI Housings Washdown

Stainless Washdown HMI Housings

304 or 316L enclosures with cleanable geometry and controlled sealing interfaces for wet or hygienic production areas.

  • Materials 304 / 316L stainless
  • Finish Brushed / passivated
  • Validation Assembly test specified
Sloped-Front HMI Consoles Console

Sloped-Front HMI Consoles

Desktop, machine-top and floor-console housings with ergonomic viewing angle, internal mounting plate and rear service access.

  • Format Desk / machine / floor
  • Controls Display plus pushbuttons
  • Access Rear or bottom panel

04 / Manufacturing Process

From HMI Hardware Review to Finished Housing

01

Interface Review

Confirm display model, cutout, bezel overlap, button spacing, viewing angle, mount, cable entry and service envelope.

02

Prototype Housing

Fabricate a production-intent sample and check the actual display, controls, rear access and mounting interface.

03

Cutting and Forming

Control visible cutouts and enclosure geometry from functional datums with finish allowance included.

04

Hardware and Sealing

Install studs, hinges, latches, mounting plates and specified gasket while protecting bonding locations.

05

Finish and Fit Check

Apply the approved finish, then verify templates or mating hardware, door function and cosmetic criteria.

06

Multi-SKU Packout

Protect visible faces and pack housings, arms, bases and hardware by size, revision and OEM assembly sequence.

05 / Why It Matters

What Makes an HMI Enclosure Production-Ready

Cutout accuracy alone is not enough. The display bezel, gasket, mounting load, cable path, operator angle and rear service access must work in the completed enclosure.

Hardware-Based Cutout Control

The mating display drawing or physical template defines fit more reliably than a generic nominal screen size.

Stiff Mounting Interface

Reinforcement around arms and pedestals limits movement when operators press the screen or reposition the housing.

Continuous Sealing Path

Doors, windows, cable entries and installed devices must be considered together for any specified ingress test.

Service and Ergonomics

Viewing angle, handle clearance, rear-door swing and wiring access affect daily use and maintenance.

The Customer Challenge

Inadequate cooling caused shutdowns, while a single mounting arrangement limited positioning and operator access.

07 / Why Choose Us

Why Automation OEMs Choose DRAmetal

01

Mating-hardware DFM

We review cutouts, fasteners, bezel support and service access against the selected display and controls.

02

Enclosure-level fit checks

Templates, mating parts and finished-door checks catch assembly risks that flat-part inspection misses.

03

Mount and housing integration

HMI heads, suspension interfaces, pedestal columns and bases can be controlled in one mechanical program.

04

Visible-surface control

Cosmetic standards and protected packout are managed for operator-facing equipment.

09 / FAQ

Custom HMI Enclosure FAQ

Can you build an HMI enclosure around our exact display?

Yes. Provide the display manufacturer's mechanical drawing or a controlled sample plus the required buttons, switches and cable interfaces. We can perform the RFQ-defined template or mating-part fit check; the OEM validates the completed HMI.

Do you manufacture suspension-arm and pedestal HMI housings?

Yes. We can fabricate the enclosure head, reinforced arm interface, pedestal column, anchor base and access panels to your drawings. Purchased arm components can be integrated when included in the approved BOM.

Can an HMI enclosure be built for washdown use?

We can manufacture stainless housings with cleanable geometry, gasket support and sealed interface provisions. The required IP or NEMA performance must be defined and verified on the complete production-intent assembly with the actual display, controls, glands and mounting interfaces installed.

Can you apply graphics or labels?

We can prepare graphics-ready powder-coated or metal surfaces and coordinate approved screen printing, laser marking or durable label application when artwork, placement and acceptance criteria are supplied.
